Spread The Love This Valentine's Day

Valentines day is widely known as a cultural and commercial holiday that celebrates love and affection. Hallmarked with cupid, the national holiday is celebrated by the exchanging of gifts, cards and letters addresses to our loved ones and marked from ‘Your Valentine’. This red and pink holiday is commonly shared between couples on the 14th of February, with romantic gestures and love in the air, it is a picturesque day.

The aim of Valentines Day is to celebrate love, it can be argued that this refers to traditional love between two people; however, many people believe that it can mean all aspects of love. Whether that be loving your family or your neighbour or your partner, it’s your choice.

About Valentines Day

Although Valentine’s Day is nationally recognised as a commercial holiday, it originated from a western Christian liturgical that celebrated one or more saint’s named Valentinus. The Valentine’s Day that we’ve come accustom to derives from Valentine of Rome, a priest who was martyred in 269 AD. He was made a saint by Pope Galerius in 496 AD. Saint Valentine was imprisoned for preforming weddings for soldiers who weren’t aloud to marry and for ministering to Christians. As the story goes, whilst he was imprisoned, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. Before his execution he wrote her a letter singed from ‘Your Valentine’.

Love is the key aspect of this well-known holiday, but love shouldn’t just be celebrated on the 14th of February, it should be ingrained into our everyday life. . It’s easy to get caught up in the negativity and the hardship in the world and we forget about all that is good. We go about our day to day grind with a chip on our shoulders and it rubs off on the people that we meet. We should spread love to everyone that we encounter. We can influence people’s moods and change their outlook just by creating a positive and loving atmosphere. Remember smiles really are contagious – so spread the love and lift people up.In the spirit of Love the Obsidian Team have decided that this year we want to support more charities and help raise money for people in need.
